You Capture-Water
We have had a lot of rain this week. Not the torrential downpours that we had last week, but sweet mists here and there.
I love taking photos of the rain drops clinging to things and boy do we have a lot of weeds things for the rain drops to cling to in our backyard.
I took Oscar outside and there were millions of drip and drops of water everywhere. But amongst the water I noticed him.
I shall forever call him Steve.
I knew I would never get close enough to him with the 50mm lens, so I went in the house and grabbed my 30D that had my 75-300 lens attached to it.
Adjusted the settings for being outside and got this one perfect shot. I told Steve I thought we had captured a perfect shot and he must have clicked the button on his transporter because not only did I not see him leave, he didn’t disturb any of the water on the leaves around him.
So while the focal point isn’t exactly water in this shot, water inspired it and made me jump out of my comfort zone a bit because I rarely use my 30D and I used it in Manual to boot (which is totally different than my xSi on Manual…trust me)
Want more eye candy? Head on over to Beth’s place and check out the water inspiration.
Fifteen and a Half
It seems like just yesterday I was celebrating her birthday and now Giggles is celebrating a whole new milestone.
She is now a Learner’s Permit Holder.
Things are different than when I got my learner’s permit. For one thing, you didn’t get a fancy smancy license, you just got a piece of paper. You also had to wait until you were 16 years old, instead of the 15 years 6 months.
Back when I learned to drive, Driver’s Ed wasn’t mandatory. Today it is mandatory, along with 50 hours of behind the wheel time.
So not only will she be taking Driver’s Ed, which also costs A LOT more than it used to. She will be taking an online course through our insurance agency to get the good rates and any other safe driving courses we can fit in there.
Which is why when Key Bank emailed me and asked if I would like to have Alexis participate in their Key to Safe Teen Driving Course, I was all over it!
From the Website
Teens will participate in a condensed version of The Mid-Ohio School’s popular Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program. Each student will receive classroom instruction and the chance to practice wet braking and emergency lane change maneuvers in their own vehicles under the guidance of The Mid-Ohio School’s expert instructors. The highlight of the day will be driving the Honda Civic Skid Car, which simulates driving in wet or icy conditions.
While this course is free and open to the public, slots are limited. I am giving away one slot to a winner (in case you don’t register before they fill up) for their teen driver to take this course. But please do not hesitate to sign up as I am sure that it will be a very educational day and who wouldn’t want to drive the Honda Civic Skid Car.
Disclosure: I was approached by Key Bank to see if I was interested in registering my daughter for this free class and promoting it through my blog. There was no monetary compensation given, I am just sharing the information so that we can have as many safe drivers on the road as possible. You do like when the roads are safer, don’t you FCC?
Georgia will always be on my mind
I can’t believe that in 2 days I will be saying good bye to this wonderful family.
In some ways it feels like I have been here forever and in other instances like I just arrived.
I miss my girls fiercely but at the thought of leaving the girls (and boy) here, I start to get misty eyed.
Maybe I shouldn’t have asked him who was helping next week, because I winced when he said ‘No one’
In the beginning I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would she remember me? Would things be awkward? Would she be the same?
The family welcomed me with open arms, with the girls quite literally.
We have laughed and talked and played. We have sat in comfortable silence, she at her computer, me at mine.
There have been milestones met, altho some were met months ago but no one was aware.
She said at lunch the other day that she hates Canada because it is stealing her away from here.
But I have decided that I don’t really like Georgia much anymore because its so far away from some of those that are closest to my heart.
Nothing short of Amazing
This week has been all sorts of awesome and amazing and it is only Tuesday night.
I swear that after I take it all in I will update here, with photos.
Because the week isn’t over yet and I am positive there is more amazingness to come.
Why?
Because she is one amazing woman & I am happy to call her friend.
