Haiku Friday: My child is too old edition

Giggles 1st day B&W
Tomorrow at noon
I will drive my sweet Giggles
to the Ice Cream Stand
The motivator?
Cash-to spend on what she wants.
To save for a car.
Where did the time go?
It seems like just yesterday
when she was a babe.
You know the sad part
Something unbelievable
That wonderful stuff.
The yummy ice cream
I will have to pay for it
No comps for the mom.

Just one more day to get in on some sweet prizes and help
out Maddie at the same time. Every little bit helps!

How I decided that the Canon 40D was not really for me

It all started around Christmas time. Well, before then actually.  Since I am a professional photographer I take a ton of photos.  Last year it was somewhere around 50,000 on my camera. Cameras are only guaranteed for so many shutter actuations. Typically it ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 depending on the make and model of your camera.  So that means in a good year I will only go through half a camera-but probably a whole one.
But, back to Christmas.  I decided that I wanted a 40D and when asked what I wanted I explained to family that I would like cash in lieu of gifts so I could purchase the camera without taking a large bite out of our family pocketbook.
I decided to wait until after the 1st of the year to purchase the camera so I could write it off for 2009.  I purchased enough items in 2008 to offset any income I really made.  But the more I thought about the 40D, the more I started leaning towards the 50D.  I really liked the fact that there were more megapixels.  Live view mode didn’t really blow my skirt up or the fact that it took mini movies.  (Trust me if you saw any of my movies you would barf thank me for not shooting them)
Then, after Blissdom, MooshinIndy said this. The Canon Rebel XSi-I had never given it a thought.  And it got me a thinking ’cause the Moosh takes some seriously awesome photos & if she was recommending I might look a little further into it.
So, me, not being technical at all-read the specs-side by side- of BOTH the Canon 40D and the Canon XSi. They pretty much seem like virtually the same camera with some little differences here and there, but for the most part the same with the
XSi winning out on the megapixel front. This morning before hubby went to work, I had him read both specs as well-and he is totally technical. In fact I call him “Technical Hubby” because he is a technician!
Now, the biggest problem I have now is where to buy it.

Tuesday’s Top Ten Things to get my house in order

I admit it, my house is a mess.  I am not sure how it happened, but it did.  I think I let my guard down while the hubby was off for two days in a row! We hung out and darn if this house didn’t clean itself. I need a way to be more accountable and when I saw OhAmanda’s top ten list, I knew it was just the ticket I needed to either get this house in shape or publicly humiliate myself on the internet.
So without further ado….The List
1. The dining room table-you should be able to see its surface-right?
2.  The laundry-one should not be afraid when near the washer.
Its sorted-with Giggles coming home we can knock the rest of it out tonight
3. In order to the laundry I need to put on the new clamp for the dryer vent-the cheap-o plastic one that came with the vent set=worthless!
4.  My bedroom. Its no wonder the girls don’t put away their laundry-mine is in baskets around my dresser.  My hubby should be an inspiration to us all.
5.  The side door landing. It is a scary place where shoes are tosses and Oscar tumbleweeds roam free. I need to get a fix on things as this is the entrance to our house in the winter.
Although while cleaning the landing I did manage to break the broom-but it was on its last leg anyways since I slid down the stairs on it a few weeks ago when someone didn’t put it away.
6.  While we are on the side door-I need to organize the basement that you see when you walk into the house. I need to take that junk stuff to goodwill-it isn’t going to take itself.
7. My closet-I know its in the bedroom, but if you saw it you would understand why it has a point of its own. I need to get a handle on it so I can better utilize my space.
8. Curtains-I have all the supplies, I need to get those curtains made. Grown up bedding for my room is worthless if I have a tapestry tossed over the curtain rod to keep out light.
9. The attic stairs. The girls keep stacking stuff up on the stairs and well, it simply needs to go. I need to declutter the stairs & attic so I can go up there freely.
10. And Finally, the floors. They all need swept, vacuumed and/or mopped.
Well there is my list. As I get things done I will cross them off. Hopefully they will all get crossed off today.  If not I will keep at them until they do.
Want to see more Top Ten lists? Head on over to Amanda’s place to see more.
Also, it is Tuesday again, so go and check out All Mediocre’s-Mediocre Topic Tuesday. We have a whole new look and a bunch more folks to welcome to the group.
One last thing- don’t forget about Maddie and her walk coming up soon!

You Blink and its Gone

I don’t know how it happened.  It seems as if time is running so
quickly these days. Minutes blast by like nano seconds and the
days seem like mere minutes on that are ticking by on this clock o’ life.
Sometimes I love the fact that the time goes by so quickly, we are that
much closer to spring-then summer.  The warmth, the heat, THE SUN!
But there are some things that I feel like I just don’t get to cherish enough as the
time so quickly ticks by. My hubby’s day off, the girls growing up, and just life in general.
I can’t believe that six years has passed and that we are nearing an
end of an era in our household. Just one week ago today we were
preparing Valentines for The Chicken to take to school.
We were getting goodie bags together and thinking
of what kind of treat I was going to bring to the class party.
The last official class party for a holiday.
I just don’t know how I will feel sending my baby off to the Middle School
next year.  But for now I will just try to cherish these moments a little longer.
And next time I complain about a school function for The Chicken this year,
remind me that there won’t be another like it again.
The Chicken's Valentine

Experiencing Bliss

So many things happened last weekend when I went to get my Bliss on with 300 other women at the Hotel Preston in Nashville, TN aka Nash-vegas.
Going into this conference I had NO idea what to expect. I wasn’t sure how I would react to all the people. Would I hit it off with women that I have been “talking” to a better part of a year or would I hold myself up in my room and wish that I didn’t travel the 900 miles to get my Bliss.
Thankfully these women were all that I expected and more.  I was so excited to meet in real life and meet for the first time many wonderful bloggers.  It felt like I had known some of them for years and not the few short days that it actually had been.
I really don’t know if I can put into words the whole weekend. In fact, I know that I can’t.  So I will leave you with photos.  Because if a photo is worth 1,000 words, well….here’s over 100,000!

us in color
Yesterday was my wedding annivesary, I should say our wedding anniversary. Our 14th wedding anniversary to be exact! I can’t believe how much time has passed by, but in the same way-how little time has passed since we were married that cold Saturday morning in 1995.
Hubby was in bootcamp and proposed to me in a letter he wrote me. My mom had mixed feelings about us getting married, as I recently had Giggles and I was only 17 years old. I was determined to marry Jeremy and so I served up my mom an ultimatium.
Let me marry him now while I am still underage or in 3 months I will leave and marry him & who knows when and if I will see you again.
Looking back I am sure my mom was just doing what she thought best. If Giggles or The Chicken were in the same situation would I sign for them to get married? Would I make them wait? I am hoping that these are questions that I will never have the answer for.
Do I love my husband? Absolutely! I love him more now than I think I did then. This morning as he was getting ready for work he said the same about me. I think back then we thought we were in love & the driving force for us getting married was Giggles. We wanted to prove everyone wrong & show them that we could “do it”
Life was hard, but I think that has made us stronger, closer, and our relationship that much deeper.

Happy Belated Anniversary, Honey.
I love you like no other and I am forever yours!!
