Thankful Thursday

As we talked about before, I am not doing this for all of you.  I mean, I adore the friendships that have been created through me being here and you being there.  I really like stalking checking to see if you have any updates on your pages.  But the real reason I do this is because I need to do it.

Okay maybe need is a very strong word, but I think it really helps me out.  I constantly have these ideas swirling around in my brain and sometimes they totally consume me.  If I get it out there it often helps with my sanity.  Like yesterday when I told you about the lady wanted to caress my toilet paper.  That had been bugging me for days.  Now, until just this very moment I hadn’t thought of her once.
But this isn’t the point.  A big long post about how I don’t need you.  I DO! We are a community that accepts each other because of our diversity.  I don’t know about you but I cherish our differences as well as our similarities.  I may not know each and every one of you who stops here (I say that like millions flock here instead of the twenty)  But I do think of you and consider you part of what makes my place great for me.  I love seeing that you stopped by, even if you didn’t comment.  I love seeing where you came from and where you were when you came to my place.
So hopefully at this point you all have read my About Me section.  You have read my 100 things post.  We may have even communicated via twitter or email.  So you should know that I am a woman committed to God.  I try to put him first in all that I do.  I try to get some quiet time in everyday to seek him out and let the peace wash over me when I truly feel in His presence.  When things are going well for me here on earth, sometimes they aren’t what’s best for me spiritually.  I get this attitude that “I did all of this.”  When really I didn’t.  So those times when I am down on my knees, I turn to my Bible or one of my Devotional books and see exactly what I need to see.  Something that is so profound that makes me know that I am not alone.  That there is the bigger picture.  And I am so thankful to have God in my life.  I am thankful for the family that I have and all the things that we are blessed with.  And I am thankful for you.
So this day what are you thankful for?  Friends, family, a job in this scary economy, the fact that if you are in the US that the elections are less than a week away……

Things that make you wonder.

Have you heard of that new extra plush Quilted Northern bathroom tissue? If not you can check it out here.  Really, go and check it out as what I have to say really helps you to visualize if you have seen the commercial.  And we have seen it a thousand bunch of times here, either because we don’t wipe enough and the wonderful people at Quilted Northern thought we needed to wipe more, or because we wipe so much that the market around here was just ripe for the wiping. (okay I know that was bad, very bad)

Anyways, part of the commercial creeps me out.  I mean the woman was caressing the roll of toilet paper.  Do I really want to use toilet paper that people feel compelled to caress while they are in my bathroom?  In fact, with it being cold and flu season I may not want people to touch the TP in my house at all.  Maybe I can make individual servings of toilet paper.  Put them in a cute wicker basket on the back of the toilet.
And while we are on the subject of things that make you wonder, last night I had a man come to my front door.  No, that isn’t the part that makes me wonder, but good guess! Here is our conversation.
  • Man- “Did you know that there is an election next week?”
  • Me-”Who doesn’t know about the election?”
  • Man-”This is no ordinary election-its the presidential election.”
  • Me-”Really? That’s good to know since I have been living under that rock for the past six months”
  • Man- chuckles “Oh, right.  I was just wondering who you voting for.  Will it be J. McCain or B. Obama?”
  • Me- blinking with surprise that he actually used their 1st initial while asking me about them.  ”I think I am voting for Obama”
  • Man- in the voice of a game show host “Excellent Answer, Good Job!!”
He then left me with some brochures and went back into the snowy rain.
Is there seriously anyone out there in the US that doesn’t know that the election is Tuesday?  Just because we didn’t have a sign in our yard doesn’t mean we don’t have a clue.  Oh well.

Calling all Cleveland Area Moms

Since I have been reading blogs I often see blogs that are specific to the area in which the blogger lives.  I have been searching high and low for a Cleveland Moms group.  Okay not that high and low, but I have thought of it often.

Well, I got an email inviting me to a local group and after putzing around on the site for a bit I really like what I see so I figured I would see if any of you Cleveland area moms were interested.  If you want to check it out, go HERE.  I am not sure how many of you are from the Cleveland area, but I figured it was worth a shot.
In other news I had my MRI last night and I am just waiting for the results.  We should have those by the end of the week.
Well I am off, I need to thicken up the stew-something we need tonight as it is trying to snow.

A walk thru town square

Yesterday while The Chicken was at Choristers I decided to take a walk through Tappan Square in downtown Oberlin*.  I remembered to bring my camera along and thought I would share a couple of the photos with you.

Better late than never

So its almost time to kick off and where have I been?  Hanging out with hubby on his last few days of vacation.  I know, I know….where are my priorities?  I need to get my picks for the BFL out or there is no way I can get “The Badge” to display here for you all to see.

So without further ado, here are my picks for this week

Fall Decor

Apparently I missed the latest issue of Better homes and Gardens where they tell you that the new hot trend is decorating your kitchen with peanut butter.  Not any type of peanut butter, but Reese’s Peanut Butter.

When questioning hubby about it, he said that Reese’s Peanut Butter is the perfect fall decoration.  He was helping me get into the fall spirit.   Then he started on some long speech about how peanut butter and jelly are the perfect fall food for the colors that they share with us.
Ummm, Okay.
Now I know that my kitchen area that you see doesn’t lead me to complain much, but in my defense all that stuff scattered around in the photos belong on a shelf that got taken down.  It is still waiting for hubby to rehang it.  We have plaster board walls and if I hang it “wrong”  all my precious frogs will fall to the ground and break.  I did hang it last time, it stood up on the wall for almost three years, then I took it down to bring in the baker’s rack and some much needed space in the kitchen.

Week Six….Can I do it?

So last week I totally dropped the ball for posting my picks for the BFL.  My bad.  Maybe I should get a big loser award for that, not the one that I may be sporting this week after my picks.  Although the week before was tight and I almost won the Player of the Week.  Hopefully my method to picking teams (Ewww, I don’t like you, your town is pretty cool, you beat us too bad last time, etc……)  will work for me again this week.  So without futher a do, here are my picks.

Baltimore @ Indianapolis
Miami @ Houston
Chicago @ Atlanta
Detroit @ Minnesota
Oakland @ New Orleans
Cincinnati @ NY Jets
Carolina @ Tampa Bay
St. Louis @ Washington
Jacksonville @ Denver
Dallas @ Arizona
Philadelphia @ San Fran
Green Bay @ Seattle
New England @ San Diego

Combined Score:  37
my picks are in bold and orange (of course)

Car Seats, Shoes and blankets…..Oh my!

I know I haven’t been around for the past week or so, I think.  I can’t remember what I last told you.  I know, I know…I could look, but right now I am just so exhausted I don’t even want to.

First of all…..remember Blog the Recession?  I thought this was an excellent idea, so I did it.  And I am still using my reader as a guide and then clicking through to actual content.  I have really enjoyed it and have gotten to see and therefore want to stalk read more bloggers.  Awesome bloggers.  But I digress, did you see that awesome list of prizes on that post.  Yea, it was a totally rocking list of things.  And of course the one thing that I didn’t actually “need”, Okay I didn’t need most of it.  But the ONE thing…..that’s right I won the carseat.  This was no ordinary carseat.  This thing is awesome.  And since my blogless BFF is expecting in November, I called her up and told her not to buy a car seat.  She was sooooo excited.  I was going to wait and wrap it up for her and give it to her at the shower in a couple of weeks, but it was taking up a lot of space, so she got it early.
So, Thank You so much to  Kristen from  Motherhood Uncensored for Blog the Recession and Graco for the carseat.  Karin LOVES it and it she can’t wait to put the baby in it (once it reaches 20 pounds of course.)
Onto news of the wrist.  I saw the orthopedic doc this past Friday.  I get to have an MRI done of the wrist.  She thinks I may have damaged a triangular piece of cartilage in my wrist. (duh, me!)  When I went to the radiology department to schedule the said MRI the girl takes  my medical record number (we have Kaiser for all of you who are out there scratching your heads wondering what a medical record number is)  She looks in the computer and says, “The first available appointment I have is October 27th at 10:15″ But she has this look in her eyes, almost apologetic, but I am not sure.  I reply “Umm, okay it is a bit far out, but I will take it”   Her reply “Ummm, that’s P.M.  10:15 P.M.  You know, at night?”
Why yes I did know that P.M. meant night, but what kind of department schedules the public to come in and get MRI’s at 10:15 at night?!?!?  (Of course I took the appointment, stop looking at me like that)
Tomorrow I start Occupational Therapy.  I am scared that it is going to hurt.  And, of course, the dumb ass that I am.  I fell up the stairs today out of the office and tried to catch myself with my messed up wrist.  UGH!  So now it is popping and cracking.  FUN!
Hubby is on vacation for the next two weeks.  I am excited to have him home with me after him working so much.  On Saturday he didn’t get home until 4 in the flipping morning!! It is a long story of a wack job and how when you threaten to blow up a major company sometimes they comply with your wishes.   Nice.  (NOT!)  Thankfully he doesn’t have to deal with any crap for the next two weeks.
So with him home we are on the quest for a couple of pairs of shoes for me.  I want them to be dressy/casual, have a heel and be comfy.  So we are laying down a bit of dough on these puppies.  Thus the search is with both of us.  He enjoys it, especially if at the end of the day it has me in heels.  The man loves me in heels.  I can’t stand them as they are so uncomfortable, BUT we did go to the Clarks store in Crocker Park and found these.  I LOVE these and want them in the red, brown and black.  But he wants to shop a bit before we lay down that much dough on some shoes.  I totally understand (sorta) but I know in the end I will have some rockin’ shoes that will look cute, sexy, and most of all NOT be tennies.  I am on the quest to look good and the shoes can really make or break an outfit.  But with a huge, honking size 11 foot, it is hard.  Real effing hard to find something awesome.  And when you do find awesome it comes with a price tag.
Well, I am going to go up and crochet (which I found I can do) on a baby blanket for Cornerstone.   My Wednesday night Women’s group is now making baby stuff for them.  Which I am excited about because they are an organization near and dear to my heart.  They really helped me out when I was expecting Giggles.  I don’t know what I would have done without them.  Hopefully one day, after the girls are gone, I can volunteer there and help out other teens in need.  But until then, I knit and crochet.
