Getting things in order AKA taking back my morning

Since I got back from Chicago (pictures to come later today) things have been so hectic here. There were things that I needed to do before I left and lots to do since I have gotten home. I have realized that I need to set my priorities in line again so that I can get everything done. Because left up to me I would just fly from one thing to the next without much thought. I really enjoy starting things but I rarely finish them.

As I looked back I realized that in the effort to switch to hubby’s new schedule~which I really don’t enjoy, but he does~(a happy hubby is worth a little inconvience on my part) And the other adjustment of Giggles starting school almost 2 hours before the chicken doesn’t help matters either. When hubby was on days, he would leave shortly after 6 AM, I would do my devotional and then have a nice bit of quiet time for meditation and reflection. I realized that Since he now leaves for work at 10:30, I often find myself climbing back into bed with him until 8 when I have to get the Chicken up. I feel lousy most mornings because I have been staying up too late, getting broken sleep, and now I realize I have given up my devotional time, and I need that time to reflect and enjoy the silence.

This morning I took that time back. After I got Giggles to school and hubby and Chicken were still sleeping, I got my coffee, gave Oscar a PB filled Kong so he would let me be by myself and just enjoyed the Lord. It feels good and I am praying that it makes things a bit easier for me today.

And on a final note….if you could spare some prayers and positive thoughts my good friend Kathie is having surgery on both of her feet this morning around 11:30. And my sister’s BF is starting Chemo next week, they found out he has testicular cancer. I need to make him a couple of chemo caps but most stuff that is out there seems to be for Women….if you guys have any suggestions please let me know as I plan to start a hat or two this weekend.

God Bless!!

Snowed in!!

Okay well we aren’t anymore…but it sure seemed like we were. Monday there was no snow, Tuesday we woke up to this……

You would think that it meant lots of knitting got done….well..NOPE! I was so tired and just went into hibernation mode….I think. The girls were both off school for 2 days. They were both a bit upset that they had school today.

Chicago land here I come…..

Okay I am off, I am hoping to post when I am there for a photography conference…but I don’t know if I am going to have time. I am going to hit a couple LYS though. I am taking dd’s smaller camera with me to take pics quickly….so hopefully I will have pics to share.

Ankle deep is better than chest high

Yes I am refering to the cookies! There is probably only about 30 cases of cookies in the house currently. That is so much better than the chest high cookies I suffered through yesterday. Several moms were overwhelmed with their daughter’s cookie order. One mom told me to “Shut up, that is so not *my cute little girl scout’s order!” I laughed, showed her the form and she sighed and barely fit her cookies in the car.

Another mom that doesn’t drive or have a car called. Her dd sold 423 boxes of cookies. I told her to make sure she had ample room to put the cookies when she picked them up. She had a ride over, came into the house and shook her head. “Wowsa that is a lot of cookies”

Duh! I tried to tell you this on the phone…..of course I said none of this. I simply asked “Do you need to make more than one trip?” Luckily she didn’t, she had her dad bring her over in his van. But with seats in, it filled up quickly.

Steph asked yesterday
I must admit, I laughed out loud when I saw them in your sitting room… Does the girls get a prize if they sell them all? (click on 2008 reg. poster)

Well yes, Steph, they do get prizes for selling the cookies. But I don’t just grab a random number and bring them home….if I did that we would have say….six cases of cookies….not over 200! Each girl sells cookies, and I have to admit that most of the time the girls show their parents this….

Then beg for them to get them there. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the prizes….but come on, some are just dumb and impractical and don’t really end up being as cool as they are in the poster. But the girls don’t care, they just want to get the build a bear dog that really isn’t getting built by you but by some poor underpaid Chinese worker who probably doesn’t even get the $3.50 a box that we are charging in a week’s pay. Okay, I really need to step down off my box and concentrate on the cookies…its all about the cookies…right?

Our girls are at the level right now that they get 60-70 cents per box they sell. So, out of thte $3.50…..only a small chunk goes directly to the girl you are buying it from. But we have to get the cookies out in cases, so we may lose money if we don’t sell all the cookies we take out. It is a win-lose gamble some of the time, but our girls were the top sellers in our area the past two years and they are really hoping to keep that title for this year. (But there are rumors flying that there is a Brownie troop in the area that has over 35 girls in it….this leader turns no one away!!)

Anywho….just wanted to answer questions about cookies since no knitting got done last night…or crocheting for that matter.

PS…..my girls sold enough that I am getting the cool t-shirt!

I think I am losing my cookie flipping mind!

Well, I don’t think I know I am losing my mind. I can say that it happened many years ago (maybe 11, I don’t think I lost my mind when we had Giggles, it was when we thought that another kid would be dandy)

Right now my sitting room looks like this……

And that’s after at least 20 cases of those cookies have been taken out of it by those kind loving parents, whom know what it is like to have to wade around one’s sitting area and look at 184 cases of girl scout cookies (which is 2208 boxes of cookies, and approx. 35,328 individual cookies in my sitting area)

I know that I have lost my mind because instead of sorting the cookies like any sane cookie mom would do, I am here telling you about how they are everywhere in my house. I fear I will have nightmares of them breeding and cases of cookies will start turning up everywhere you look in the house. Thankfully only about 160 of these boxes of cookies (roughly 13 cases) belong to Chicken. I just have to get them to my step mom and my sister so they can distribute the cookies. Because you know how much selling Chicken did for 168 boxes of cookies…none! When my sister and my step mom found out it was cookie time they begged the Chicken to let them take forms to work. Okay, begged is a strong word, but they were pretty insistant. So she gleefully handed over her order forms. Then my mom found out it was cookie time and she bought 10 boxes. My surrogate mom also bought 10 boxes from cute little Chicken. So what was Chicken’s line when asking others to buy cookies?

“Both my Grandma’s bought TEN boxes each, exactly how many are you going to buy?”

Some people just chuckled and ordered less (okay 2 people from church…remember she didn’t really sell these cookies my family did it for her) But my hubby’s buddy from the Navy was only going to order 7 boxes. I know, I said only….but chicken saw this and said “Dad’s Navy buddy, I know you think you want to order 7 boxes but I think you are wrong. My grandma’s each ordered 10 boxes. You love me as much as my grandma’s right?”

He chuckled at her, we left for a birthday party for one of Chicken’s friends. When we get back Chicken races to her form to see what Navy Buddy bought. Yup, you guessed it…..10 boxes!

You see the cookie delivery is only the beginning. Then you have to collect said cookie money. Now, that is never fun. You always have a couple who wait until last minute and are shocked that you want the money. And it is always the ones that you least expect. I would give you examples but those people may be reading and I know they know who they are….but I don’t want to shove it in their face and be all obvious about it. Not yet, maybe after March 12th when I need the money to turn in. Still others are shocked that the troop won’t take their check or 900 plus dollars in cash (which is in the form of ones and quarters)

Yes, it is quite clear that I have lost my cookie flipping mind….but while the co leader of our troop has her younger daughters troop, this will be my fate during cookie season.

And what about knitting content (altho to my defense this isn’t strictly a knitting blog)I am almost done test knitting a shrug from Simona, and …. Ugh…..I happen to be crocheting~so please shoot me now! More on that another day.

C is for Cotton

Hello there my friends, this post does include the letter C. I thought of many things to start with the letter C….like Chicken…but you have seen her so much, that if you need a chicken fix I am sure you can scroll down or wait a couple of days….Chicken likes the camera! But my C post will be for Cotton. I love Cotton sock yarn. This particular sock yarn came from Germany. It was so colorful and I just ate it right up. The only bad thing about the cotton was that there wasn’t enough for the socks, so the toes are actually made out of DMC Senso Cotton yarn, which is a bit stiffer, but okay. I made the first sock eons ago, when I first got the sock craze, the second one didn’t come about until last month. The only problem with knitting them years apart is that my gauge is a bit different. I now knit tighter and so the second sock(the one with the smaller pink toe) fits perfect everywhere, while the first sock is a bit loose, but loose is okay, it seems to stay up and not slouch….but it does move a bit. Of course since it is winter in Ohio I have another pair of socks under these ones. Cotton is great also because it doesn’t make me itch. I have a terrible time with wool sometimes….mostly because of what people stick with it. Somedays I can touch wool and it is fine, others itch me terribly! I love alpaca and hope to make a pair of alpaca socks….I am not sure how that will turn out though as I hear alpaca doesn’t have a memory and I don’t want stretched out socks. Hmmmm…..

This past week or so has been crazy. First my sinus infection from hades was absolutely the worse I have felt in a long time. And to top it off I ended up getting my *friend* who arrived early just to hang out with me when I was sick. Gosh I just *love* her. (grumble, grumble) Just as I was starting to feel better Giggles ended up getting a concussion at her last basketball game. Right before the halftime buzzer a team mate went to shoot the ball from half court, didnt’ make it, but Giggles’s other team mate grabbed at the ball, so the ball and her team mate’s elbow hit her in the head. She swooned but didn’t fall down or pass out. The next day we took her to the peds and they confirmed the mild concussion. No tournament play for Giggles, she wasn’t too upset, but was mad at the tournament when I wouldn’t let her shoot from the free throw line during warm up.

She got sent home on Tuesday with dizziness and headache. We called the ped, he told us to go to the ER, the only problem being we have Kaiser. I love Kaiser, but….we had to go to their ER which was 20 min away. If I walk down the block (12 houses) I can see the closest ER to us….8 blocks away~small city blocks really small~ But I digress…..it wouldn’t be bad, but NE Ohio was getting a nasty storm and the roads were icky. It took us about an hour to make the 20 min trip. We sat in the ER and I knit on hubby’s afgan (pics coming as soon as it is done…which should be soon) She got a CAT scan. They had the neuro. look at it and said all was okay. “It’ll take some time to heal, so unless she gets worse, she’ll be fine” I know!!

Then we came home Giggles got mad because I wouldn’t let her and Chicken watch a movie while eating dinner. A dinner that I made and sliced my finger on some dried up salsa on the jar….ugh, why don’t kids and hubbies clean off the jar mouth? I was just getting my plate together to sit at the table and was saying “no Giggles you can’t watch a movie, you still have homework and we are eating at the table” (this is something we do often, not just on occassion) Then I hear CRASH! She tossed the remote onto the couch, from the room away. It bouces off the couch hits the window and breaks our precious 86 year old windows. (Did I mention Hubby isn’t home…he is away on business this week!!!) So i call Mom’s BF and ask how to fix the window temporarily…he tells me to tape a box to it….I did. I call hubby. His first words…..”Is the remote okay?” The remote?!!?!?! You have got to be kidding me. He was okay about the window, had me put batting on the window as well to insulate it (thankfully the storm window wasn’t broken) Then said he and Giggles will fix it when he gets home next week.

Well, I need to run. I have to set up for a photo shoot tomorrow, and I am still in my PJ’s. I promise to visit here more often with lots of photos. And if I have promised you something in the mail its coming….later today….as I haven’t gotten there yet. I am sure you understand why!

Toodles!

82%How Addicted to Blogging Are You?

Wow…

I was shocked today when after feeling so much better I ventured to my computer to see my long list of regular blogs that I read and came to Cygnit’s site to see this…..
I don’t know how I found her, but once I found her I bookmarked her and read her each day (as long as she updated) (Gee am I am admitting to stalking poor Cygnit?) At first I was concerned that she may think weirdly of some person randomly commenting on her blog, but apparetly not. I am very happy to not only found a blogger friend, but for her to think I am a friend as well. Thanks Cygnit!! So if you don’t know her….go and check her out!

I will give my award later, as I have a lot of stuff going on right now. Let’s see we could do a C post….C being for concussion, Chicken going to the “cursed” dance, coughing……but we won’t. Off to knit and then come back to the Nice awards for all of you!!

Greetings from Under the Rock of Death

I would show you some pics of what I have been up to, but I would have to be the first to admit that it would be boring!

I hope that these meds kick in soon. I am on Day #3, and still feeling no relief. After I post this I will probably go and take a nap. Now that is patethic.

Hoping I get a surge of energy so I can knit some tonight. I miss my knitting, I miss my life. I am tired of living in these pj’s, and I love my pj’s so that is saying something.

Okay, off to sleep.

Happy 13th Anniversary Hubby!

Oh and what a romantic one it was…..NOT! I spent the day in bed…..GET your mind out of the gutters, Please!!! LOL! I have been fighting “a cold” since Christmas. Somedays I feel awful, somedays I feel great. Well yesterday after we got home from Church I felt really tired. I put back on my Pj’s and knitted my hat on the couch (which I got done…pics in a day or two) As the day went on I felt worse and worse.

Around 7ish the girls and I went to my dad’s for a bit. It was his birthday and I didn’t want to not see him, plus they were sick over there, so it wasn’t as if I was going to give them something. We stayed for a couple of hours. I fell asleep as soon as we got home. Fast forward to this morning…..ugh, blech, and *cough, hack, cough*. Giggles did get herself up, hoorah! and so I layed in bed and contemplated if this is what death felt like while she got ready. I took her to school, after that I got Chicken up, and dh up. This morning was the “continental breakfast” at Chicken’s school to celebrate those on Honor and Merit roll. What that meant for us was getting at school over 45 min early, sitting in the dark cafeteria and eating cold pop tarts, half donuts and luke warm orange drink for McDonald’s. At this point is was after 8, so I had made an appt to see the doc around 11ish.

Upon arriving at the doctors I realized I had forgotten my knitting….ugh, was I really that sick? I got in to the office after waiting 30 min or so….didn’t like that part. Was told by my doctor that I should have been in there 3 wks ago because I had a severe sinus infection. Big horse pills they call antibotics were prescribed for 2 weeks @ 2x a day!! And if by Friday I am not hacking some of this gunk up, then I get to go on steroids….Oh boy!! LOL!

So *hack hack* Happy *sneeze* Anniversary baby. I love you soooo much!

And you know what is the best? While I was feeling so miserable this morning he was telling me “how hot” I still was. Which made me laugh, then cough….but hey, it made my day!

See you all tomorrow, hopefully!
